Wonder Man is becoming something of a hit for Marvel Studios. Critics and fans seem to be responding to its semi-meta approach. It is sitting at 92% with both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, which makes it one of the best-regarded Marvel efforts for Disney+.
It was all nearly so very different. THR’s Heat Vision Live event tookplace at the DGA Theater Complex in Los Angeles, and one of those featured was TV writer Andrew Guest, who worked on the show.
He said Marvel nearly gave it the Batgirl treatment and scrapped it as a tax write-off.
That went well
The writers and actors’ strikes were apparently a key consideration, and they kicked off while the show was about halfway through production.
“You know, it could have been a tax write-off for Disney, but I know for a fact that the people who were producing this show, like Brian and all of our amazing team there, were fighting their asses off to make sure that we came back and finished this weird, melancholy show. That, you know, was a big, big swing for them.”
He said the time off did create a lot of notes from Marvel as they took the time to look, perhaps a bit too closely, at the show.
Will the reception to the show force Marvel to think again and cosider a second season?
