Universal Pictures has announced that the eleventh and final film in its popular “Fast and Furious” franchise has scored an official title and release date.

“Fast Forever” is set to open in cinemas on March 17th 2028. It marks the first real studio movement on the film, following many months of social media teases from star Vin Diesel on Instagram.

Diesel did a new post today which features a picture of him and Paul Walker from the first “The Fast and the Furious” film and says: “No one said the road would be easy… but it’s ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy…And a legacy… lasts Forever. March 17th 2028! FAST FOREVER.”

The film arrives approximately five years after “Fast X” came to a close with an explosive cliffhanger that potentially left several characters dead in a plane crash.

How many of the cast will return is not clear. “Fast X” included Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Jason Statham, Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron, Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson.

As previously reported, it’s expected that the new film will return primarily to the Los Angeles setting of the first film and be a more tightly budgeted affair.
