Acting veteran Mandy Patinkin (“Homeland”) has joined the cast of the upcoming live-action adaptation of the acclaimed PlayStation action-fantasy video game series “God of War” at Amazon Prime Video.
Patinkin will take on the role of Odin, father of the Norse Gods who serves as the primary villain of the second game. Former “The West Wing” alum Richard Schiff played the role in the game.
In addition, Icelandic-American actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (“Severance”) has been confirmed for the role of Thor.
Both will star opposite previously announced cast members Ryan Hurst (“Sons of Anarchy”) as Kratos, Max Parker (“Boots”) as Heimdall and Teresa Palmer as Phoebe/Sif.
The story follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye.
Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
The live-action series has received a two-season order with pre-production underway in Vancouver.
Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Outlander”) serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Frederick E.O. Toye has been set to direct the first two episodes.
