Works by Christopher Nolan, Peter Weir, Wes Anderson, John Carpenter, Richard Linklater, Ed Zwick, Amy Heckerling and Brad Bird are amongst the twenty-five films that have been selected for preservation by the National Film Registry.

Thousands of titles are submitted by the public for consideration for films that are deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant enough to preserve. They also must be at least ten years old.

The list for the 2025 titles is out, the additions bringing the number of films in the registry up to 925. Turner Classic Movies will host a television special on March 19th to show a few of the selections.

TCM host and film historian Jacqueline Stewart, who is chair of the National Film Preservation Board says:

“It is especially exciting to see that the top title nominated by the public for this year, ‘The Thing,’ has been added to the National Film Registry, along with ‘The Truman Show’ and ‘The Incredibles’ which also had very strong public support.”
