A new “Darkman” reboot is in the works with filmmakers Brian Netto and Adam Schindler (“Don’t Move”) set to direct according to the original 1990 film’s director Sam Raimi.
Raimi is currently out promoting his survival horror/dark comedy “Send Help” opening this week and was asked by Movieweb about any plans to revive Darkman. He said:
“Yes, Ghost House Pictures, the company I work with, is trying to make the sequel right now. We’ve got a screenplay and two great directors, but we’re still having a little difficulty with the financing. It’s always the same in the movie business.”
Dread Central subsequently confirmed the names of the directors. Raimi first worked with the pair on Quibi’s “50 States of Fright” before he produced the Netflix film “Don’t Move” which they helmed.
In 2024, the pair told THR that a new Darkman was their dream project. The pair were recently announced as directing “Every House Is Haunted” at Raimi’s Ghost House label.
Liam Neeson starred in the original film about a scientist developing a ‘synthetic skin’ for burn victims. He’s attacked, disfigured, and left for dead by a ruthless mobster and corrupt developer.
An experimental treatment gives Westlake super-human strength and resilience, with the side-effect of rendering him mentally unstable and borderline psychotic. He seeks revenge on those who disfigured him, using his synthetic skin to disguise himself.
