Lucasfilm is diving deeper into the galaxy’s criminal underworld with Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, a new animated series centered on one of the franchise’s most dangerous survivors. The show explores a crucial chapter in Maul’s long arc, charting how the former Sith apprentice rose from the shadows to become the ruthless leader of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate.

The series launches on Disney+ on April 6, debuting with its first two episodes. New installments will follow weekly, leading up to a two-episode finale arriving on May 4, fittingly timed with Star Wars Day. The release strategy positions the series as a major spring event for the platform’s Star Wars lineup.

Sam Witwer returns to voice Maul, continuing his definitive portrayal of the character. He is joined by an extensive supporting cast that adds fresh voices and texture to the underworld story, including Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots, and Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki. The ensemble also features Chris Diamantopoulos, Charlie Bushnell, Vanessa Marshall, David C. Collins, A.J. LoCascio, and Steve Blum.

With its focus on power, survival, and criminal ambition, Maul – Shadow Lord promises a darker, character-driven expansion of the Star Wars animated canon.
