Disney’s “Zootopia” sequel has just hit a big box office milestone. The title has now pulled in $1.7 billion worldwide, overtaking the $1.69 billion haul of 2024’s “Inside Out 2”.
As a result, “Zootopia 2” is now the highest-grossing Hollywood animated film in history, and the ninth-biggest global release of all time – coming in just behind “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($1.9 billion) and “Avengers: Infinity War” ($2 billion).
The film debuted just before Thanksgiving to $156 million domestically and $559.5 million globally over five days.
More importantly, it has stayed a box-office performer in the weeks since – climbing to $390 million domestically and $1.31 billion overseas with almost half of that figure coming from China alone ($619 million).
Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said in a statement:
“This milestone belongs first and foremost to the fans around the world whose enthusiasm made it possible. We’re incredibly proud of our filmmakers Jared Bush, Byron Howard, and Yvett Merino and the entire team at Walt Disney Animation Studios for creating a film that connects so deeply with audiences everywhere. ‘Zootopia 2’ is an extraordinary achievement, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life.”
“Zootopia 2” has broken many milestones, including being the fastest animated Hollywood film and quickest PG-rated release to reach $1 billion globally, along with the second-highest-grossing Hollywood film in China.
China’s “Ne Zha 2” remains the biggest animated movie of all time worldwide with $2.25 billion.
