It seems the Looney Tunes are still alive and kicking. There is a new Daffy Duck and Porky Pig movie heading to the big screen in The Day the Earth Blew Up, with a review on the way. Well, it seems Speedy Gonzales is heading to the big screen as well.

The Hollywood Reporter has said that Jorge R. Gutierrez is working on bringing the little guy to the big screen. There is no news of a writer or plot just yet, so we will keep you posted.

Seeing that Speedy might be coming back is a good thing. This is because the little mouse in a sombrero was subject to the cancel culture. You would think that Looney Tunes would be subject to the cancel culture, but then, in this day and age, it’s not that surprising.

Back in 2021, just before Space Jam: A New Legacy came out. The New York Times published an article saying Pepe Le Pew “normalised the rape culture”. Pepe was cut from Space Jam, although Drooges were left in. Make what you will of that.

In the same article, it stated that Speedy “helped popularise the corrosive stereotype of the drunk and lethargic Mexicans.” This offended middle-class Americans, and poor Speedy was cancelled again.

In 1999, he was banned from Cartoon Network for the same reasons of stereotyping. However, back then, it caused outrage from the League of United Latin American Citizens asking for him to come back from carcel (Spanish for ‘jail’). Mexicans loved Speedy and wanted him back.

It’s good to see Speedy Gonzales will be heading to the big screen, if only to annoy the people who were offended by him. Ándale! Ándale! Arriba! Arriba!
