Amazon Prime has released the first image of Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner as Lara Croft from the upcoming Prime Video Series, Tomb Raider.

Tomb Raider is based on the iconic video game franchise following the globetrotting adventures of Miss Pyramid Titties archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. The video games mostly passed me by, although everyone knows Lara Croft. And here she is…

No wait. Here she is:

What can I say except she kind of looks like Lara Croft. But this isn’t cosplay. The bigger question is whether Ms Turner has the acting chops to pull off the character.

Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander have previously played Lara onscreen. I must admit I have a soft spot for Alicia Vikander’s 2018 version of Tomb Raider. While far from perfect, it avoided most of the girl boss clichés. Lara was portrayed as a newcomer, gets beaten up constantly but perseveres. You know, like an actual hero.

The new series is led by arch feminist Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Indiana Jones and Something) so it may end up more girlbossy than a Rey Skywalker convention.

Tomb Raider also stars Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein. I bet Sigourney is the baddie.

Prime has not set a release date for Tomb Raider, but expect it some time in 2027.
