A24 is reworking the Robin Hood legend with The Death of Robin Hood, a quiet, introspective take that shifts the focus from rebellion to reckoning.

The newly released trailer makes clear this is not a tale of youthful defiance or heroic momentum. It is a story about what remains after the legend fades.

Hugh Jackman stars as an aging Robin, burdened by memory, injury, and the accumulated weight of violence. His performance emphasizes restraint and physical decline, replacing speed and bravado with stillness and reflection.

Directed by Michael Sarnoski, the film reframes Robin Hood not as a symbol of justice, but as a man confronting the consequences of a life spent fighting. This Robin is no longer chasing victory. He is searching for understanding. The forest is quieter, the movement slower, and the moral certainty far less clear.

The approach marks a sharp contrast to earlier versions of the character, from Kevin Costner’s heroic Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves in 1991 to Ridley Scott’s grounded 2010 film with Russell Crowe, and the youthful reinvention led by Taron Egerton in 2018.

The Death of Robin Hood positions itself as something entirely different, using age and aftermath to explore a legend from the inside out.
