Incapable of phoning it in, Tom Cruise ended up more involved in Star Wars than anyone ever thought possible. The upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter will feature Cruise and A-game in the most surprising way.
Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was talking about the project to The New York Times and revealed that they had a visitor on set back in November. Tom Cruise flew himself in via helicopter to just observe as they set up a lightsaber duel that was to be shot in some water.
Levy suggested Cruise jump on one of the cameras as a joke. He forgot to take into account that Cruise simply does not accept the existence of games B thru Z, only A. He also likely does not even own a phone, so incapable he is of phoning anything in.
So, of course, Cruise jumped straight in. He grabbed the camera and waded intot he muddy pond, according to Levy:
“…ruining his very nice shoes. Now when you see the movie you’ll know that part of it was shot by Tom. I mean, how cool is that?”
Starfighter is now deep in post-production, with filming having been completed just before Christmas. Ryan Gosling leads, with Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Eva Mendes co-starring.
The project is billed as an all-new standalone adventure and entirely original story set several years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Star Wars: Starfighter arrives in cinemas in May 2027.
