While most live service games crash and burn, some spectacularly, every now and then one will break through.

In recent years, “Helldivers 2,” “Palworld,” “Marvel Rivals”, and most recently “ARC Raiders” have all seen major success. “ARC Raiders” has seen strong engagement in the months since its release.

Developer Embark Studios and publisher Nexon (“PUBG”) are behind the PvE-focused extraction shooter (with some PvP elements) in which Earth has been devastated by ARC, a hostile machine force that periodically raids the surface.

Players play as scavengers who venture out from underground settlements to gather resources, complete objectives, and survive encounters with major robotic enemies.

Speaking with GamesBeat recently in a lengthy video interview, Embark Studios boss Patrick Söderlund says multiple production companies and studios have been in touch about a potential screen adaptation of the title:

“I can’t tell you how many companies have reached out to us wanting to make a TV series [and] movie out of this IP. We [wouldn’t] mind doing that. It would be fun, but it needs to be done in the right way. I hope that we will do that. I think the IP fits quite well with something like that.”

He adds that the studio doesn’t “have anyone working on a TV or film adaptation yet” and reportedly stressed the ‘yet’.

While many games have been or are making their way to film and television, most of those titles have been single-player or co-op games, not live-service titles.
