While Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos are available formats on many streamers, such as Netflix and HBO Max, they are typically used only for the streamer’s original scripted productions and films.

Dolby Laboratories has announced that, starting this year, Dolby Vision and Atmos will be available across live sports on Peacock.

This will include support for both technologies being added to Sunday Night Football, NBA and MLB live sporting events and more.

The companies have also announced that Peacock will start supporting the new Dolby Vision 2 and Dolby AC-4 standards starting later this year.

Dolby Vision 2 uses new tools and an image engine to automatically optimise your TV, fine-tuning picture quality and allowing for greater detail in both extremely dark and extremely bright scenes.

There will be new optimisations for live sports and gaming, and ‘Authentic Motion’, which aims to eliminate both judder and the ‘soap opera effect’ for much more cinematic motion.

Dolby AC-4 succeeds the current AC-3 codec used for Dolby Atmos today and enables more efficient streaming and greater customisation of the audio mix, including dialogue enhancement.
