Back in November came reports that 35-year-old British actor Callum Turner, best known for roles in “Fantastic Beasts” and “Masters of the Air,” had emerged as the frontrunner amongst the bookies to take over the role of James Bond.

The rumors gained traction when Turner was spotted on holiday with his partner, Dua Lipa, in Jamaica where they stayed at Goldeneye, the former estate of author Ian Fleming which is now a hotel.

The Daily Mail has added fuel to the fire this past weekend, reporting that Turner himself has been “blabbing all over town” he’s got the part and that “everyone in his circle is talking about it. It’s the worst-kept secret going”.

They add that “Dua is over the moon for Callum. She’s been saying she’d love to record the Bond theme”. Subsequently, both The Times and The Independent picked up the story.

World of Reel has now added to the story, saying according to their sources: “Turner has caught the attention of Villeneuve and Amazon/MGM, and yes, he is due for a screen test in the coming weeks, but he still hasn’t nabbed the role. Not even close”. Their source adds that “Jacob Elordi remains in the mix as another potential candidate”.

Either way, director Denis Villeneuve is currently in post-production on “Dune: Part Three” and isn’t expected to commit to any actor until much later in the year. Steven Knight is penning the script.

Physically, Turner is closer to Bond than some of the others who’ve played him – 6ft tall, stormy blue-grey eyes, dark brown hair that could easily be made black, lean and not overbuilt. He’s got some name recognition, but still mostly an unknown, and comes from a working-class background like Sean Connery and Daniel Craig.
