“Avatar: Fire and Ash” has now become the fourth James Cameron movie to pass the $1 billion mark at the global box office, following the previous two “Avatar” films and “Titanic”.
As of the end of Sunday, the film is expected to hit $306 million domestic and $777 million international for a worldwide gross to date of $1.08 billion. That puts it as the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 worldwide – sandwiched between two other Disney features (“Zootopia 2,” “Lilo & Stitch”).
Third-party indicators suggest the film will finish up its theatrical run around the $1.7 billion mark.
“Zootopia 2” also continues smashing records in its sixth weekend of release, the film’s $604.1 million gross in China becoming the second-highest-grossing Hollywood film of all time in that country behind only “Avengers: Endgame” ($631 million).
The worldwide total for the film currently stands at $1.22 billion, making it the sixth biggest Hollywood release overseas of all time – overtaking “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($1.14B) and “Furious 7” ($1.16B).
Also of note is that the Sydney Sweeney-led thriller “The Housemaid” has now racked up $133 million worldwide with $75.7 million domestically, its U.S. gross of $14.8 million this weekend dropping just 3%. Projections are it’ll end its run just past the $200 million mark – making it one of Lionsgate’s biggest hits of the decade.
Meanwhile, the Timothee Chalamet-led “Marty Supreme” is on track to pass $100 million at the domestic box office, the first for A24.
