Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the teaser trailer for “Madden,” the upcoming biopic starring Nicolas Cage as NFL coaching and commentating legend John Madden and Christian Bale as NFL owner Al Davis.

The project is written, directed and produced by “American Hustle” and “Silver Linings Playbook” director David O. Russell with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Jonathan Shukat and Matthew Budman producing.

Madden, who died in 2021, was the larger-than-life head coach of the Oakland Raiders in the 1970s. He became a mainstay of television football coverage for three decades. He also lent his name to the popular video game franchise.

The film is set in the 1970s during Madden’s coaching era, and when Davis was the owner of the Oakland Raiders. It will show how Madden had to leave years of coaching behind due to health concerns, helped develop the Madden NFL video game series, and found later success as a broadcaster and pitchman.

Co-starring are John Mulaney as EA founder Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis. Russell is directing from a script he co-wrote based on an earlier draft by Cambron Clark.

“Madden” is on track for releasing on November 26th 2026.
