Following a $36.5 million haul on Friday, which includes $12 million in previews, James Cameron’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is headed for a $85-90 million domestic opening weekend.

That’s considerably under the domestic start of “Avatar: The Way of Water” which made $134.1 million in its debut, though ahead of the original which began with $77 million.

The film has already earned $43.1 million from international openings on Wednesday and Thursday, with the title having the highest opening day of the year in multiple countries, including Australia, New Zealand and a bunch of western Europe.

While the critics delivered mixed reviews of the film, the audience’s exit polls are more favourable with an ‘A’ CinemaScore.

Coming in second will be Angel Studios’ “David,” which is heading for a $25 million start. That’s ahead of Paul Feig’s “The Housemaid” which is projected for a $20-21 million debut. “SpongeBob Movie: The Search for Squarepants” will come in fourth with $17 million.

Meanwhile, next weekend’s “Marty Supreme” has been revealed to have the fastest presales in A24 history with over 70% of tickets sold overall in its initial limited run.
