Pluribus is definitely a contender for this season’s most-discussed new show. Even notoriously hard-to-please Outposters seem to be raving about it. It hails from Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad.
Now, according to Apple TV, it has become the most-watched show in its history.
The little streamer that nobody talks about, but consistently has some of the best content on streaming, is breaking that mould. Strong word of mouth is developing around shows like the previous record holder, Severance, and now Pluribus.
These sit alongside crowd pleasers like Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters, Slow Horses, and Idris Elba’s Hijack. New seasons of all of these are coming soon.
Apple won the rights to the series back in 2022 in a big bidding war with HBO, Amazon, and Netflix. Their legendarily deep pockets off the back of all those over-priced gadgets clearly won out.
Part of the bid was a straight-to-series two-season order.
98% on Rotten Tomatoes, 87/100 on Metacritic, and a place on the AFI’s Top 10 TV Series of the year list have now followed.
Pluribas follows Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), a fantasy romance author in Albuquerque, and one of only 13 people in the world immune to the effects of an extraterrestrial virus that has transformed the rest of humanity into a peaceful and content hive mind that happily accommodates the wishes of those who remain unaffected.
Are you watching it? Does it deserve the hype?
