Metacritic has announced its official list of the fifteen worst-reviewed films of all time, with the Ice Cube-led “War of the Worlds” coming out as the worst release of the year.
The title, effectively a feature-length commercial for Amazon shot during the pandemic, scored an unprecedented 6/100 on the review aggregator – far above the Kevin James and Alan Ritchson-led comedy “Playdate” which was second worst at 20.
The Nic Cage-led “Gunslingers” (20), the Stallone-led “Alarum” (23), and the Rebel Wilson comedy “Bride Hard” (23) were next worst and make up the ‘bottom five’ of the year.
In sixth through tenth were last weekend’s box-office topper “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” (26), Joe Carnahan’s Omar Sy-led action film “Shadow Force” (27), Renny Harlin’s trilogy mid-parter “The Strangers: Chapter 2” (28), Trey Edward Shults’ The Weeknd vanity project “Hurry Up Tomorrow” (29), and the Russo Brothers’ $320 million sci-fi epic “The Electric State” (30).
In #11-15 were “Juliet & Romeo” (31), the Rihanna-led “Smurfs” (31), the Johnny Depp-led “Modi” (32), Josh Boone’s YA adaptation “Regretting You” (33), Simon West’s “Old Guy” (33) starring Christoph Waltz & Cooper Hoffman,.
Finally, in #16-20 were the Pacino & Dan Stevens exorcism thriller “The Ritual” (33), the Ke Huy Quan-led action film “Love Hurts” (34), Audrey Diwan’s reboot of “Emmanuelle” (35), Harmony Korine’s “Baby Invasion” (36), and the direct-to-streaming film “Star Trek: Section 31” (37).
