You know what everyone loves? AI. Personally, I can’t get enough of it, whether it’s trying to get a simple answer from my phone provider to seeing a cat playing a fiddle on a porch.
It seems that the newest advert for McDonald’s was created with AI, and you’ll never guess what? People hated it. They hated it so much, it was pulled from YouTube and set to private. Shame, as it would have been nice to see the ratio of likes to dislikes.
The advert was first screened on the Netherlands YouTube channel on the 6th of December. Straight away, people took to social media to denounce the use of AI in the production. One person calling it:
“…the most god-awful ad I’ve seen this year.”
That’s saying something, since 2025 has been one of the worst years on record for ‘entertainment’.
On the 9th of December, just three days later, the advert was deleted. In a statement to the BBC, the ‘creators’ said that the moment served as “an important learning” as the company explored “the effective use of AI”.
Here is the advert in question.

The advert shows everything that can go wrong at Christmas, but it was the AI video clips that got people angry. When it was released, viewers criticised the uncanny-looking characters and the large number of stitched-together clips. It was called ‘creepy’ and ‘poorly edited’.
Someone on Instagram commented about the AI advert:
“No actors, no camera team..welcome to the future of filmmaking. And it sucks.”
Thousands of Takes
The company that produced the AI advert, The Sweetshop, defended the production. It said the production process took “seven weeks” where the team “hardly slept” and created “thousands of takes – then shaped them in the edit just as we would on any high-craft production”.
They also said:
“This wasn’t an AI trick. It was a film.”
That’s a bold statement. It’s not a film at all; most movies aren’t films these days.
McDonald’s isn’t the only company to use AI in their advertising. Coca-Cola had an advert earlier this year. According to an analytics company, the Coke advert had:
“…found it had a 61% “positive sentiment rating”.
Really? Is someone reading some of the comments and not the others? Here is the ratio on the advert.
As I have said, AI is here to stay, and we can’t ignore it. However, it seems we can do something about it, with enough people complaining about it.
