Sigourney Weaver is reportedly in talks to join the upcoming live-action “Tomb Raider” TV series at Amazon Prime Video.
Details of her role are under wraps, including how extensive the role is and the nature of it but it is rumored to be a female villain. The actress has both “Dust Bunny” and “Avatar: Fire and Ash” coming to cinemas this month.
Weaver marks the third casting for the project, following former “Game of Thrones” alum Sophie Turner as Lara Croft and British actor Martin Bobb-Semple in an unspecified role.
The series was first announced in January 2023 when celebrated British scribe and Emmy winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge was attached to create, write scripts, and executive produce the series.
Chad Hodge is also on board as executive producer and co-showrunner. Jonathan van Tulleken will serve as director and executive producer on the series, which will begin filming on January 19th.
The show is expected to involve Lara Croft as an already established adventurer and archaeologist, have a 1990s vibe and is aiming for a tone akin to 1999’s “The Mummy”.
