Paramount+ has premiered both a new extended five-minute clip and a new “Beverly Hills 90210”-esque poster for its upcoming “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” series launching next year.
Reception so far, especially to the poster, has been pretty negative on social media, with even diehard Trekkies questioning the appeal of the show.
The series is set in the 32nd century (the “Star Trek: Discovery” era) and follows a fresh class of cadets as they train under the watchful, demanding eyes of Starfleet’s finest – Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, and Zoë Steiner play the group.
They’re joined by veteran actors like Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, Tig Notaro, Robert Picardo, Oded Fehr and Stephen Colbert among others.
Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau serve as co-showrunners on the series which has already been filming its second season since August and will be completed in February, around the same time the first season premieres on February 10th.
