Yesterday was officially Batman Day, and Superman landed on HBO Max on the same day. With all that social media activity going on around the two events, it would have been remiss of DC Studios Chief James Gunn to not have been doing his usual high engagement with fans via various channels.
He showed up on Threads, and was answering fans questions about all things DCU. When he was asked about casting the DCU Batman, he had this to say:
“I have guys I like. I have guys that are at the top of the list. One actor in particular… a pretty big star, wants to be Batman. We’ve talked about it, but I don’t think that’s the case.”
Is he referencing Jack Reacher himself, Alan Ritchson? He is a clear fan favorite, and they have even taken to the internet with all their AI tools to create all sorts of fan-made images and videos to try and push him for the role.
He was also asked about casting Wonder Woman, and the questioning soon turned on the issue of her height, given Corenswet’s Superman being 6′ 4″ tall.
“I don’t think extreme height is the most important factor in casting WW. That’s all I said earlier as well. I never said I didn’t feel good about her being taller than Superman – I just said that would never be what I considered most important in her casting.”
One name that the internet has started throwing around is Rachel Pizzolato. She’s a statuesque 6′ 1″ tall. She is also an actress, swimsuit model, and national championship-level athlete. She is also an online influencer with a decent following, and is a full-on scientist and inventor, holding patents on a number of innovations, and host of Mythbusters Jr. All this at just 21 years old.
The biggest source of the online conversation about her stems from a pretty stunning, television-accurate cosplay appearance at Comic-Con this year.
Gunn also confirmed, in a conversation with The Ringerverse, a few details about his follow-up to Superman – Man of Tomorrow – and big plans for Lex Luthor:
“I think I’m just more interested in getting into the heart of Lex and seeing how he fits into all of this. I think getting to know more of Lex as a human being. We saw a lot about the evil part of Lex. He’s pretty evil. He, as a character, is really interesting. There’s something, despite everything, that is incredibly heroic about Lex.
Take aside morality, which is hard to do, but here is this guy who is saying, ‘You can hold up a building. You can shoot down planes with your eyes. F— you, I’m going to kick your ass because I’m better than you. I can’t help but admire his tenacity and his ego. His ambition is beyond compare. He’s the underdog.
Yeah, sure, he’s got a lot of corporate power that he can use to manipulate things, but he can’t fly into outer space, lift up a building, or punch something across three states. He’s a guy, and I f—ing love that.”
The treatment for Man of Tomorrow is currently being developed into a full script, while elsewhere in the DCU, the second season of Peacemaker enters the home stretch, with many links into the new DCU being layered in as Easter eggs.
