As is almost always the way, studios spend huge amounts of time keeping things under wraps or carefully crafting a reveal, only for an overseas event or international trailer to blow it all out of the water. It is almost as if they don’t understand the “World Wide” bit of the “World Wide Web”. So, predictably, our first proper look at Doctor Doom comes from overseas.

The Walt Disney Studios Marketing Expo was running all last week in Shangai. As is usual, those industrial little Eastern fellows were showing off all sorts of fancy technology, and, during all this, a good look at the villain from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday was revealed.

Shortly afterwards, some official promo art was released to the world, and on display at the Expo.

Pretty comics-accurate and suitably imposing. Hopefully, the mask will be largely present throughout, so the Downey Jr stunt-casting doesn’t distract. There was also a holographic light show that revealed more of the character.

Chris Evans, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Hayley Atwell, and Ryan Reynolds are all yet to be officially confirmed, but everyone expects them to show up alongside pretty much everyone in the MCU at some point.

Avengers: Doomsday lands in cinemas on December 18th, 2026.
