Considering that Hollywood executives are not particularly effective, and in their “monkey see – monkey do” way of following trends, we imagine there are already meetings happening at studios right now, all asking, “Where do we get one of those?” “One of those” is the box office phenomenon K-Pop Demon Hunters.

The reason? Because sing-along screenings of the Netflix & Sony Animation movie easily topped the box office this weekend. A two-day event has pulled in $18 million.

The movie is available on Netflix, but that hasn’t stopped 1.5 million people from getting out to screech their little hearts out in a movie theater.

K-Pop Demon Hunters knocked Weapons off the top of the box office. That made $15.6 million for the three-day Friday-Sunday weekend and had a healthy drop of 36%.

The rest of the top five was made up of Freakier Friday ($9.2 million), The Fantastic Four: First Steps ($5.9 million), and Bad Guys 2 ($5.1 million).

Meanwhile, Superman crossed the $600 million mark despite a PVOD release timed to get it out before Peacemaker season 2 started to roll.

It was bad news for Nobody 2, which dropped 60% in its second weekend with just $3.7 million, and noises starting that it will arrive on PVOD within days.

Overall at the box office, this weekend was the worst performing weekend of the Summer domestically with just $78 million.
