Interesting. Very interesting. So far, Amazon MGM Studios has been making interesting moves on Bond. From appointing David Heyman as one of the producers to selecting Denis Villeneuve to direct. Now… this. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will officially pen the script for the new James Bond film.
He has a decent list of credits. SAS Rogue Heroes, See, Taboo, Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things, Locke. Good pedigree. He also walked away from a Star Wars project over creative differences with Lucasfilm, so that shows good judgment.
Knight also co-created Who Wants To Be A Millionnaire, a format that was sold all over the world.
Knight will get to work pretty much straight away, with the aim being to create the script while Villeneuve is filming Dune: Part Three, ready for him to shift straight across to Bond after that project. Villeneuve has said of the project:
“I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour.”
Between the two of them, they will set the tone and approach and that, in turn, will inform one of the biggest casting decisions in the movies – who is the new James Bond?
