You can have a major star like Ryan Gosling, and a director like Shawn Levy coming off the back of Deadpool & Wolverine, but another sign of just how tarnished the Star Wars brand has become under this iteration of Lucasfilm is that they can’t attract any more talent.
Star Wars: Starfighter was unveiled in Japan last week, and already it has run into trouble.
According to a report from DanielRPK the movie is having trouble casting. It is set to land in May 2027 in theaters, so production is spinning up right now.
Already, Jesse Plemons, Jodie Comer, and Mikey Madison have all turned down villain roles. Sarah Snook was offered the role of a mother in the production and has also passed on the opportunity. Greta Lee was in the running to play a small but key role as a cantina owner, and she has also declined.
The scooper also revealed the outline. Star Wars: Starfighter follows a 15-year-old boy on a mission with his uncle (Gosling) as they are pursued by two villains – one male, one female. The movie is set years after Rise Of Skywalker and does not involve any Jedi. The budget is said to be “significantly smaller” than other Disney Star Wars movies. That wouldn’t be hard, as their budgets had reached ridiculous levels.
Levy and Jonathan Tropper have written the script and will produce.
Bet this seems like a real good idea now:
