Emmy-winning actor Jon Hamm has officially signed on for the lead role in the psychological thriller anthology series “American Hostage” which has been setup at MGM+ and Sony Pictures Television.
Based on the acclaimed podcast of the same name, the project hails from Criminal Content and director Shawn Christensen and is based on the true story of a hostage-taking situation which took place in 1977.
The TV series follows Hamm as Indianapolis radio reporter Fred Heckman, who is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program.
Hamm also voiced the Heckman role on the podcast itself. The TV series will be created and executive produced by Shawn Ryan (“The Night Agent”) and Eileen Myers (“Masters of Sex”).
The news follows on from Hamm’s new dark comedy series “Your Friends & Neighbors” launching the other week on Apple TV+ with that show already renewed for a second season.
Hamm is also currently atttached to star in the adventure dramedy movie “Wilder & Me,” and the Pixar movie “Hoppers”.
