I have a funny feeling about Marvel’s Thunderbolts. I don’t know why. I just do. I have a feeling it’s going to be really rather good. A fun, enjoyable romp. I also have a feeling that nowhere near enough people are going to go to movie theaters to see it.

I hope I am wrong, as cinema needs movies like this to hit big to survive right now. Streaming and short release windows have all but entirely removed the real drive to get out to movie theaters to see this stuff.

A Minecraft Movie proved that people will still get out for an event or a phenomenon. Is the MCU an event anymore? Or have they saturated their own market? In just two weeks we will start to know the answer. Ahead of that, Marvel Studios has released a final trailer for Thunderbolts.

This one seems to put more emphasis on the characters and their motivation to come together, presenting something of a downbeat post-Avengers world.

Thunderbolts is a team-up of some of the MCU’s anti-heroes ordered by now President Thunderbolt Ross. The team features Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, and Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost.

Co-starring are Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Geraldine Viswanathan as Valentina’s assistant, Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster, and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff.

The film is being directed by the interesting Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank, Paper Towns, We Cry Together) from a script from Joanna Calo, Lee Sung Jin, and Eric Pearson.

Marvel’s Thunderbolts arrives in cinemas on May 2nd.
