“Jurassic Park” franchise alum Sam Neill is about to tackle a whole different kind of giant beast as the legendary New Zealand actor has reportedly joined the cast of the new “Godzilla x Kong” film at Legendary.
Neill marks the latest addition to an increasingly stacked cast that includes Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Dan Stevens with the latter returning as veterinarian Trapper Beasley.
In the film, several new human characters fight alongside the titans Godzilla and Kong against a cataclysmic world-ending threat. Grant Sputore (“I Am Mother”) is directing from a script by Dave Callaham (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”).
The project marks the sixth overall film in the Monsterverse saga that began with 2014’s “Godzilla” reboot and continued through “Kong: Skull Island,” “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” “Godzilla vs. Kong” and last year’s “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” which was the highest grossing entry to date.
In addition, the franchise resulted in the well-reviewed Apple TV+ series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” with a second season of that already shot and coming in 2026. To date, the films have grossed over $2.5 billion worldwide at the box-office.
Neill was most recently in Peacock’s limited series “Apples Never Fall” and the Australian courtroom series “The Twelve”.
