Imagine being paid millions of dollars to deliver absolutely nothing. That is either what it feels like to be a partner at a big 5 consulting company, or Phoebe Waller-Bridge at Amazon. Unless you are a results-orientated, red personality type, then it is living the dream!

Waller-Bridge’s much-vaunted multi-million dollar deal at Amazon has, so far, yielded absolutely nothing and the flagship project appears to be dead. According to reports, the new Tomb Raider TV show is no more.

A series order was handed out last May, and the project was casting its lead. The project was being personally overseen by Jennifer Salke. Salke, as we know, is out at Amazon as the industry seemingly turns its back on executives and creatives who place identity over creativity.

The reports first appeared in The Daily Mail (reported via Dark Horizons) which claimed two sources had confirmed the show was not going ahead. According to Puck News reporter Matthew Belloni Jennifer Salke was “personally overseeing” the series.

According to his report, the project was in danger of descending into the kind of mess that Salke’s name was attached to one too many times at Amazon. Tomb Raider had gone through two writer’s rooms and tens of millions of dollars in development costs while still without a script. The usual gap between a creative’s vision and Salke’s (or Amazon’s) approach would appear to be rearing its head again.

Amazon has yet to officially confirm the cancellation.
