Highest 2 Lowest
Filmmaker Spike Lee has himself confirmed that his new film “Highest 2 Lowest” will be premiering at Cannes next month. The news came less than two hours after the announcement of this year’s Cannes Film Festival line-up and Lee’s film was notably absent.
Denzel Washington stars in this reimagining of Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller “High and Low”. The original follows a wealthy man forced to choose between achieving a personal ambition or saving the life of a kidnapped child. [Source: Variety]
The House of Last Resort
Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society production company optioned the screen rights to Christopher Golden’s 2024 horror novel “The House of Last Resort”. Golden will adapt the book and produce alongside Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo and Pete Donaldson.
The story follows a young American couple who relocate to a Sicilian hill town, where the mayor is selling abandoned homes to foreigners for a single Euro in an effort to revitalize the community. Soon they learn their new home has walled-up catacombs beneath it, whispers in its walls, and a dark history. [Source: Deadline]
The Mummy
Veronica Falcón (“Ozark”), May Calamawy (“Moon Knight”), and May Elghety (“Grand Hotel”) are set to join Jack Reynor and Laia Costa in director Lee Cronin’s new take on “The Mummy” at Blumhouse and Atomic Monster.
Filming is now underway on Ireland and Spain on the project which involves a mummy but has no link to the Brendan Fraser-led franchise or the Tom Cruise-led 2017 film. [Source: Deadline]
Eddington
The first poster for “Hereditary” and “Midsommar” director Ari Aster’s “Eddington” has been released, the one-sheet following the first photo earlier today along with the film being revealed as having its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler and Luke Grimes co-starin the film about a small-town sheriff in New Mexico with ambitious dreams. The project is set during the COVID-19 pandemic which is why it has the “Hindsight is 2020” tagline.
