With Jennifer Salke being seemingly pushed out at Amazon, some of her pet projects may face an uncertain future. One of those is Citadel.

The giant in scope, massively budgeted spy thriller series was launched by the Russo Bros. with a clear mission – to be Bond for television. Tonally, it was all over the place, with action sequences straight out of Roger Moore movies from the 80s, but with melodrama from Craig’s run, and a lead that seemed to be channeling Timothy Dalton, but without the natural intensity.

And it was expensive. How expensive? Very expensive!

The final bill, after some reshoots and some production issues, was $300 million for six episodes. This made it the second most expensive TV show ever made, behind only The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power – another Salke project.

A second season was already commissioned, along with a number of spin-offs to expand the Citadel universe. Possibly not anymore…

Now, multiple sources for Heat Vision (as reported by Dark Horizons) report that the second season of the main series is being pushed from fall this year back to 2026. Furthermore, Amazon execs have seen some of the second season and are unhappy with what they have seen. As a result, all further spinoff series are on hold until the second season is released.

Then, if not up to a required quality level and with good viewing figures, then they will simply not be happening.

Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra return for the second series of Citadel, alongside the expansive cast. It may face an uphill struggle, as it simply didn’t seem to chime with audiences and failed to make the Nielsen Top 10 streaming originals chart, with the exception of the last episode.
