More set pics have leaked out from the current shooting underway in Italy for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. These shots show Matt Damon as Odysseus, complete with long grey beard. They also show Tom Holland in armor. He is thought to be playing Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. Also shown is Zendaya, who is speculated to potentially be playing anyone from the Goddess Athena through to Circe.
None of this is confirmed.
The cast is huge, for this, with Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Corey Hawkins, Bill Irwin, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Nick Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, and Maurice Compte all appearing.
Filming took place in Morocco last month, and they have been shooting on the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece. These shots are on the Aegadian Islands just off the west coast of Sicily.
The Odyssey is one of two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer. It is one of the oldest surviving works of literature and remains popular with modern audiences. Like The Iliad, The Odyssey is divided into 24 books.
It follows the King of Ithaca, Odysseus, and his journey after the Trojan War. His journey from Troy to Ithaca lasts ten years, during which time he encounters many perils and all of his crewmates are killed. In Odysseus’ long absence, he is presumed dead, leaving his wife Penelope and son Telemachus to contend with a group of unruly suitors competing for Penelope’s hand in marriage.
The film’s script was written by Nolan, and the film will be produced by Nolan and his wife, long-term producing partner Emma Thomas.
The Odyssey is set to arrive in cinemas on July 17th 2026.
