The new HBO and Max adaption of the Harry Potter stories continues to build its cast. Another key role is getting close to being locked. According to a report in Deadline, one-half of the Shaun Of The Dead lead duo, and a recent star of Skeleton Crew, is in line for the role of Hagrid.

Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz) is reportedly closing a deal to play Hogwarts groundskeeper and deliverer of key exposition Rubeus Hagrid.

He would join John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Professor Severus Snape.

HBO is playing their cards close to their chest on this, saying in a statement:

“We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”

However, internet sleuths had already picked up the signs after Frost expressed great excitement about an upcoming project on social media, and began following some of the cast and crew.

The role was previously memorably played by the late Robbie Coltrane across the Warner Bros movies. Frost is in something of a purple patch in his career, with a role in the upcoming live adaption of How to Train Your Dragon coming before any Harry Potter engagement.

The books are being adapted into a series to allow the inclusion of the vast amounts of detail that were left out of some of the movies, with one season expected to follow the adventures of one year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.
