The 80s was when many of us matured into movie lovers, but what was your favorite underrated movie of that great decade? It wasn’t a big movie, but you loved it all the same.
Gentlemen and ladies, let us gather in the illustrious halls of LMO and join the great debate. This time, we’re going back in time to the 80s, the greatest decade of cinema.
We now live in one of the worst times for cinema entertainment. Last year, I think I went to the cinema twice, Dune: Part 2 and something else, I can’t even remember now. When I was a kid though, I’m pretty sure I would go once a week.
One of my local cinemas in the 80s used to have a Saturday morning kids’ club. Great kid friendly action movies. I would get the bus into town, get to the cinema, get some sweets and have a blast watching whatever the movie was with a bunch of other enthusiastic kids. Great times.
These days, going to the cinema seems like a chore. It’s expensive, there are way too many adverts and people like to whip out their phones during the movie. Not just that, but most movies these days are just boring.
I’ve seen most of the new movies that have come out, but I wouldn’t sit through most of them again. When I was a kid in the 80s, I would get the VHS of a movie and watch it to death!
I’m guessing that most of you Outposters are around the same age as me. Your bones creak, your back hurts and you have to be in bed by 9:30. I was 5 years old when the 80s kicked in, but I had the best time watching some of the best movies ever.
For the debate this week, it’s not about the big movies, but ones that you remember fondly. For example, I loved Biggles: Adventures Through Time, so much so that I made a YouTube video about it.
When I mention Biggles to most people, they haven’t really heard of it. It wasn’t a huge hit, but I loved it all the same. It was quality entertainment. So, for the debate this week:
What is your favourite, underrated 80s movie?
I’m not talking about Die Hard, Predator or Commando, but those lesser-known movies that you think people should know about. What is your Biggles?
