Early last month came the news that Sarah Michelle Gellar was in the final stages of negotiations to reprise her iconic role of Buffy Summers from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer: for a continuation at Hulu.

The series would be a revival of the beloved supernatural drama and would be directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao along with having “Poker Face” co-showrunners Nora & Lilla Zuckerman as writers, and longtime television executive Gail Berman as producer.

The as-yet-untitled continuation is expected to focus on a new Slayer with Gellar appearing in a recurring role rather than a leading one, but Gellar was adamant on social media that they wouldn’t proceed unless “I was sure we would get it right”.

Cut to a few weeks later, she says the project is moving… and fast. Production officers are already set up with the team already coming together to work on the story, characters and ideas. Gellar tells People:

“We’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated. But it’s going to be a process, I think.

To do it the way it needs to be done, everyone has to be patient with all of us, because this isn’t something that [will just happen].

I pinch myself every day when I get into these rooms, and I’m looking at Gail Berman, the Zuckermans and Chloé Zhao. It’s an incredible group.

At present it’s not clear if any other cast members from the original show like Alyson Hannigan, David Boreanaz, Nicholas Brendon, and Charisma Carpenter among others would return.
