The upcoming PG-rated film adaptation of Mojang Studios’ popular “Minecraft” is reportedly on track for an opening of around $58 million domestically during the first weekend in April.

Citing data from the National Research Group, THR says it marks a welcome win for Warners chiefs Mike DeLuca and Pam Abby as up until recently the films they’ve released were inherited from the previous regime at different points in development.

“Minecraft,” by contrast, is “the first movie they made from start to finish” says the trade along with the upcoming Ryan Coogler film “Sinners”. Warner Bros. Pictures partnered with Legendary on the film and put up most of the financing for the $150 million budget feature.

With three weeks to go, the final rush of marketing is about to begin to get people out to cinemas to check out the movie. If the studio can keep the momentum going with “Sinners,” “F1” and “Superman” then Warners could be seeing sunnier times ahead.

Early data indicates the Jared Hess-directed film is generating strong interests teens and young adult audiences of both genders with interest levels reportedly slightly higher than “Detective Pikachu” and about on par with the first “Sonic the Hedgeghog” film.

Jack Black and Jason Momoa lead the ensemble cast of the live-action film which follows a group of misfit humans who must are transported into the world of the popular video game and must learn to survive. Sebastian Eugene Hansen, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Jennifer Coolidge also star.

“Minecraft” opens in cinemas worldwide on April 4th.
