Actor Dwayne Johnson has finally confirmed on his social media channels that he will be joining the cast of Martin Scorsese’s next directorial effort.

At last report a few weeks back, multiple studios and streamers are bidding for the project with Netflix rumored to have the edge at present.

The crime caper film, set in turbulent 1960s and 1970s Hawaii, will star Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt.

It is centered on an aspiring and charismatic mob boss who engaged in a brutal and bloody war with rival crime syndicates and mainland corporations to wrest absolute control of the island’s underworld and preserve his ancestral land.

Johnson says in his post today:

“Grateful for what’s been the most creatively inspiring time of my career – working closely with my friends and of course, the maestro Marty Scorsese. Much more to come.”

The film is expected to be costly, similar to the $200 million budget range Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “The Irishman” nabbed.

Blunt and Johnson reportedly brought the idea to Scorsese and DiCaprio who then enlisted Nick Bilton to write it. The actors, director, writer, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette and Rick Yorn are all producing.

No word as yet when filming will begin.
