Veteran actor Giancarlo Esposito says he hopes to one day reprise his “Star Wars” role of Moff Gideon in a future project.

The villainous character first appeared in the first season of Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” and was seemingly killed during the third season finale. But, this is “Star Wars” and resurrections have happened before.

Speaking with Empire Magazine recently, Esposito says he would gladly reprise the role but indicates it’s unlikely he’ll be in the upcoming “The Mandalorian & Grogu” film due in cinemas next year:

“There is a big movie coming out that’s focusing on Mando and The Child. I can’t say it’ll be that. But I hope to be able to join that franchise again, because I think there’s more road for Moff Gideon.”

He still has plenty to say about his character though, the actor had a lot of backstory in mind about why this man broke bad:

“Moff Gideon, to me, was ultimately that young boy who never had any power, who was always questioned about the color of his skin. re you white? Are you Black? Your hair is kind of curly?’ And he then took on this place for me, where he was ultimately the power, not only because of his physicality but because of his brain…The way he spoke, and everything else which I was able to create in such a powerful way, empowered me to control the chaos around me.”

The Jon Favreau-directed “The Mandalorian & Grogu” film will star Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Jonny Coyne. It opens in cinemas May 22nd 2026.
