Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that its streaming service Max will launch in Australia on Monday, March 31st. Max will be the home of content from HBO, Warner Bros., DC, Cartoon Network and more.
Previously, cabler Foxtel and its Binge streaming service hosted that content. WBD is partnering with Foxtel to provide Foxtel subscribers with access to the Max app at no additional cost (for a Basic with Ads plan).
From the end of March, Binge-only subscribers will seemingly lose access to the majority of the HBO and Warners library (but not all). Currently airing shows like “The White Lotus” are reportedly unaffected.
Max and Discovery+ combined ended 2024 with 116.9 million global streaming subscribers and are aiming to reach 150 million by 2026 via aggressive international expansion. The service is presently unavailable in at least 40% of the world market.
Meanwhile, analytics firm Antenna reports that the streaming bundle of Max, Hulu and Disney+ for $16.99 a month – a bundle that launched in July last year – has been shown to be incredibly ‘sticky’ with around 80% of subscribers sticking with it after three months.
That’s not only a higher retention rate than Disney, Hulu or Max as standalones but even higher than Netflix at 74%.
