Roadside Attractions has released the trailer for the Nicolas Cage-led psychological thriller “The Surfer”.

Cage plays a man who built a life for himself in the United States and returns to the idyllic and secluded Australian beach of his childhood to surf with his son.

His desire to hit the waves is thwarted by a local gang of surfers whose mantra is “don’t live here, don’t surf here” and claim strict ownership over the beach

Humiliated and angry, the man is drawn into a conflict that keeps rising in concert with the punishing heat of the summer and pushes him to his breaking point – declaring war against those in control of the bay.

Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand and Justin Rosniak co-star. Filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan (“Vivarium,” “Nocebo”) directs from a script by Thomas Martin.

Robert Connolly, Nathan Klingher, Leonora Darby, James Harris and Mark Lane produce. The film is slated to hit U.S. cinemas on May 2nd.
