To date Marvel Studios has released only two works under their ‘Special Presentations’ banner – the one-off specials “Werewolf by Night” and “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special”.
Now it appears they will be joined by a third. Speaking with Comicbook.com (via Collider), Marvel Studios Head of TV and Streaming Brad Winderbaum reportedly revealed that “Jon [Bernthal] is working on a Punisher Special Presentation”.
No potential release date window, further casting or story details were available. The news was revealed as part of a video interview with the outlet, a video interview that was subsequently deleted but not before the news got out and has spread like wildfire online.
Bernthal is reprising the Frank Castle/The Punisher role for the upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again” series premiering next week. The actor has appeared in that show’s trailers and was photographed participating in action sequences alongside series star Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.
The former “The Walking Dead” and “The Accountant” actor played the role previously both in the second season of “Daredevil” and across two seasons of his own “The Punisher” show – both on Netflix.
Bernthal has a busy time ahead, the actor has a part in Chris Nolan’s “The Odyssey” due to begin filming shortly in Europe, and has the release of both “The Accountant 2” and “The Amateur” in cinemas in the coming months.
