Never Saw Me Coming
Janelle Monáe will both star in and produce the film adaptation of Tanya Smith’s memoir novel “Never Saw Me Coming” at Universal Pictures. A director is not yet attached to the project, and no release date has been set.
Smith was a teenage hacker turned financial system mastermind who amassed $40 million in illicit cash, diamonds and gold. The FBI cornered her but “refused to believe a Black woman could be the architect of such sophisticated crimes”. She faced one of the longest white-collar sentences in history before mounting her own defense and winning. [Source: Deadline]
The Wrong Girl
Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat are set to lead Dylan Meyer’s “The Wrong Girl” which just began filming in Los Angeles. Seth Rogen, Kumail Nanjiani, LaKeith Stanfield, Zack Fox, and Tony Hale co-star.
Stewart and Shawkat play codependent best friends living paycheck to paycheck and bong rip to bong rip, when a case of mistaken identity throws their lives into chaos. NEON will release the film. [Source: Indiewire]
Untitled Steve Carell Comedy Series
BAFTA nominee Danielle Deadwyler (“Carry-On,” “The Piano Lesson”) has been tapped for a lead role in the upcoming Steve Carell HBO single-camera comedy series from Bill Lawrence (“Ted Lasso”) and Matt Tarses (“Scrubs”).
Carrell plays an author who has a complicated relationship with his daughter. Deadwyler plays the head of the English Department at the liberal arts college, who’s also a professor of poetry and a published writer who has an instant rapport with Carell’s character. The Beauty
Isabella Rossellini (“Conclave,” “Death Becomes Her”) has joined Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX series “The Beauty” in a recurring guest star role. Evan Peters, Ashton Kutcher, Anthony Ramos, Jeremy Pope and Rebecca Hall co-star.
The eleven episode series is set in a world where a sexually transmitted disease that causes those infected to become ‘more beautiful every day’ and follows two detectives who discover it comes at a terrible price. [Source: Variety]
