After a break from them for a while, a new rumor has popped up this weekend regarding casting on HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV series ahead of filming later this year.
Scooper Daniel Richtman (via SFFG) teases that “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “Fleabag” star Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been offered the role of Harry Potter’s hateful aunt Petunia Dursley.
Fiona Shaw played the part across the films, her character was the sister of Harry’s slain mother Lily Potter and took over raising Harry after her sister died.
If true, the report joins other casting rumors including Mark Rylance or Mark Strong for Hogwarts Headmaster Professor Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu for Potions Master Severus Snape, Brett Goldstein as groundskeeper Hagrid, and “Bad Sisters” star Sharon Horgan being up for Professor Minerva McGonagall.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and series director Mark Mylod previously confirmed the series will stick to the canonical ages from the books – with several adult characters to be younger than their film counterparts.
The series aims to adapt the works into seven seasons with one season per book. The first season, and likely the subsequent ones, are said to clock in at around eight episodes each.
Tens of thousands of kids sent in audition tapes for the lead roles of Harry, Hermione and Ron.
