Ahead of the Super Bowl, Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl took place which was partly used to promote James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” film.
Gunn appeared in a one-minute video with his own pet Ozu, the dog that served as the inspiration for Krypto the Superdog who appears in the “Superman” film. Sadly none of the material shown during the broadcast showcased any real new footage.
However, there has been some online promo material released, including a Krypto-themed poster and a brief video having fun with the haircut of Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardener version of Green Lantern. Check out all the promo material released below.
Merchandise featuring the DCU’s Superdog has also popped onto social media. Warners opted to take this route to promote the film rather than spend millions on a TV spot during the actual Super Bowl.
Gunn has previously indicated that the Krypto in the movie is fairly willful and he’s “not nearly the best dog”. He’s also described Kal-El’s relationship with Krypto as being ‘complicated’.
David Corenswet stars in the film as Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Edi Gathegi, Terence Rosemore, Anthony Carrigan, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, María Gabriela de Faría and Wendell Pierce. The film opens in July.
