The PlayStation Network has been subjected to a massive outage overnight, with the company saying it is aware of the issues and is investigating.
The outage began on Friday evening at around 6 pm US-ET with all PlayStation platforms impacted. While some users have reported that they have experienced no issues, the outage appears to be wide-reaching with the PlayStation Network, PlayStation Store, PlayStation Direct, account management, social pages and more all impacted.
The outage has stretched on longer than last October when PSN was down for roughly 9 hours, and is potentially their longest outage in years.
“Call of Duty” fans in particular have been very vocal in their frustration due to this being a promotional weekend for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” where players could earn double XP through Monday. A free weekend beta for “Monster Hunter Wilds” was also taking place this weekend.
Online service outages aren’t unusual, but this one is impacting the way game license verification is handled on the platform. That means even players with digital copies of their offline single-player games have found that they are unable to play them.
Sony has yet to provide a timeframe for when the PlayStation Network outage will subside and fully return to normal or commented on why the services have been impacted, only saying it was working to resolve it as soon as possible. Some players who were having issues are now reportedly indicating they’re back online.
Retailer GameStop had fun with the news, posting on X: “Bet y’all want physical copies now.”
PlayStation will reportedly hold a State of Play presentation soon.
