Back in November came the report that writer-producer Simon Kinberg (the “X-Men” franchise) had reportedly signed an expansive deal with Lucasfilm to write and produce a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films.

Kinberg, who co-created the “Star Wars: Rebels” animated series, would spearhead the saga’s launch with a “new path forward” for the sci-fi fantasy franchise – including new characters and a new story.

Now, a report from scooper MyTimeToShineH (via SFF Gazette) is corroborating a rumor of former “Man of Steel” and “The Witcher” star Henry Cavill having met with Lucasfilm about a potential role – adding that the part is expected to be a villainous one.

Their ‘reliable insider’ doesn’t know which character the actor is said to be in talks for. They previously indicated that Cavill was up for a part in Kinberg’s trilogy, but that may have changed.

Cavill most recently appeared as a Wolverine variant in last year’s “Deadpool and Wolverine” and has the “Highlander” reboot in the works.

Filmmakers James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Shawn Levy, Taika Waititi, and Donald Glover all have “Star Wars” projects in development at Disney.
