Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan’s new and currently untitled supernatural romantic thriller.

The project is based on an original story co-created by Shyamalan and novelist Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan and Sparks are independently writing the screenplay and a novel, respectively.

Both will be based on the same concept and set of characters, but each suited to their respective mediums. It marks the first time Shyamalan will collaborate with a high-profile writer.

Plot specifics are under wraps. Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan, Theresa Park and Marc Bienstock will produce.

Shyamalan’s films that have amassed more than $3 billion worldwide and is coming off last year’s hit “Trap”. Gyllenhaal had two streaming hits in 2024 with the “Road House” film and “Presumed Innocent” TV series remakes, he’ll next star alongside Denzel Washington in “Othello” on Broadway.
