Filming is officially underway on Oscar-nominated “Triangle of Sadness” and “Force Majeure” filmmaker Ruben Östlund’s next dark satire film “The Entertainment System is Down” with Keanu Reeves leading a star-studded cast.

The black comedy is set on the ‘kangaroo route’, the nearly 24-hour (with one stopover) long-haul flight between the UK and Australia. When the plane’s entertainment system breaks, the passengers are forced to contend with boredom.

In an official announcement today confirming the start of principal photography in Budapest, the full cast list has been revealed and will include Reeves, Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Nicholas Braun, Samantha Morton and Tobias Menzies in the leads.

Also starring are Connor Swindells, Daniel Webber, Lindsay Duncan, Wayne Blair, Dan Wyllie, Allan Corduner, Sofia Tjelta Sydness, Erin Ainsworth, Myles Kamwendo, Sanna Sundqvist, Elle Piper, Tea Stjärne, and Swedish artist Benjamin Ingrosso.

Östlund’s last film was famed for its chaotic nearly 15 minute sequence of cruise ship passengers succumbing to seasickness with projectile vomiting, raw sewerage explosions, flooded staterooms, people sliding on floors slicked with bile, etc.

How this will top that is not clear. Östlund writes and directs the movie which will use a real Boeing 747 on the set with shooting to take place over 70 days through to May. A24 will release the film.

Reeves is coming off voicing Shadow in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” and has the “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina” opening this year.
